About this exercise

A dynamic standing mobility drill in which the hips are rotated in large, smooth circles to lubricate the hip joint, loosen surrounding musculature, and improve rotational range of motion. Commonly used as a warm-up or cool-down movement.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and place both hands on your hips
  • Soften your knees slightly and engage your core to stabilize your upper body
  • Begin rotating your hips in a large, smooth circle — forward, to one side, back, and to the other side
  • Keep your upper body relatively still and let the movement come from the hips
  • Complete the desired number of circles in one direction
  • Pause briefly, then reverse direction and perform the same number of rotations

About the Hip Circles

The Hip Circles is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
