About this exercise

The hanging dead bug is an advanced core exercise performed while hanging from a pull-up bar. You alternate extending and retracting your legs in a controlled dead bug pattern, challenging core stability, hip flexor strength, and grip endurance simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Hang from a pull-up bar with an overhand grip, arms fully extended and body vertical
  • Brace your core and bring both knees up to hip height
  • Extend one leg forward and downward in a controlled motion while keeping the opposite knee bent
  • Slowly return the extended leg and switch to the other side
  • Alternate legs in a smooth, controlled rhythm without excessive swinging of the hips
  • Keep your lower back neutral and avoid letting your body rotate
  • Continue alternating for the desired number of reps
