About this exercise

The groin crunch is an abdominal exercise performed with the legs in a butterfly (soles together, knees out) position. Holding the legs in this flared position activates the inner thighs while the abdominal crunch motion targets the upper abs.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back and bring the soles of your feet together, letting your knees fall out to the sides in a butterfly position
  • Place your hands lightly behind your head or cross them over your chest
  • Engage your core and curl your upper back off the floor, bringing your chest toward your knees
  • Hold the contracted position briefly, squeezing your abs at the top
  • Slowly lower your upper back back to the floor under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
