About this exercise

A gentle hip-mobility drill performed from a kneeling or seated position where the knees rock open and closed like a gate, warming up the hip rotators, inner thighs, and glutes. The smooth rocking rhythm increases joint range of motion and prepares the hips for training. It is a common element in mobility warm-ups and yoga-inspired routines.

How to Perform

  • Sit or kneel on the floor with both knees bent to the sides and feet near your hips (butterfly-like position)
  • Place your hands on the floor behind you for support
  • Allow both knees to drop toward the floor on one side as you rock your hips
  • Rock back through center and let the knees fall to the other side
  • Continue the smooth, controlled rocking motion rhythmically
  • Breathe deeply and let gravity assist the range of motion
  • Avoid forcing the movement; let the hips loosen gradually over each repetition
