About this exercise

A mobility drill that trains the deep squat position, improving ankle, hip, and knee flexibility needed for athletic movements and daily activities. Performing controlled descents and holds at the bottom of the squat develops range of motion and joint stability over time.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and toes turned slightly outward
  • Clasp your hands in front of your chest or extend your arms forward for balance
  • Slowly lower into a full squat by pushing your hips back and down, keeping your heels on the floor
  • Descend until your thighs are below parallel and your torso is upright
  • Hold the bottom position for 2–5 seconds, gently pressing your elbows against your inner knees to encourage hip opening
  • Push through your heels to stand back up in a controlled manner
