About this exercise

The elbow-to-knee crunch is a core exercise performed lying on your back that brings the elbow toward the opposite knee, strongly activating the rectus abdominis and obliques. The twisting component increases oblique recruitment compared to a standard crunch.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hands loosely behind your head
  • Engage your core and press your lower back into the floor
  • Lift your shoulder blades off the floor and simultaneously draw your right elbow toward your left knee
  • Extend the left leg out straight as you twist
  • Return to the starting position with control
  • Repeat on the opposite side, bringing the left elbow toward the right knee
  • Continue alternating sides for the desired number of repetitions
