About this exercise

The dynamic chest stretch is a mobility exercise that uses controlled, rhythmic arm swings to loosen the pectoral muscles and the front of the shoulders. Performing it dynamically rather than statically makes it ideal as a warm-up before upper-body pressing or pushing movements.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and a slight bend in your knees
  • Extend both arms straight out to the sides at shoulder height
  • Swing your arms forward across your chest, crossing one over the other, feeling a gentle stretch across your back
  • Immediately swing your arms back out wide and behind you, squeezing your shoulder blades together and opening the chest
  • Keep the movement smooth and controlled throughout, without jerking
  • Repeat the forward and backward swing for the desired number of repetitions
