About this exercise

A challenging abdominal exercise in which you lie flat on your back holding a dumbbell overhead and simultaneously lift your straight legs and torso to meet in the middle, forming a V shape. The added load of the dumbbell increases the demand on the rectus abdominis and hip flexors compared to the bodyweight version.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with legs straight and arms extended overhead, holding a dumbbell with both hands
  • Brace your core and simultaneously raise your legs and upper body off the floor
  • Reach the dumbbell toward your feet as your body forms a V shape at the top
  • Keep both your legs and arms as straight as possible throughout the movement
  • Lower your torso and legs back to the floor in a controlled manner
  • Tap the dumbbell lightly on the floor before initiating the next repetition
