About this exercise

The dumbbell Svend press is a chest isolation exercise where two dumbbells are pressed firmly together and extended forward from the chest. The constant inward squeezing force keeps the pectoral muscles under continuous tension throughout the full range of motion, making it an effective chest finisher.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright or sit on a bench and hold two dumbbells pressed flat face-to-face between your palms at chest height
  • Squeeze the dumbbells together firmly with both hands throughout the entire movement
  • Press the dumbbells forward away from your chest, extending your arms until they are nearly straight
  • Keep the squeeze constant as you slowly pull the dumbbells back toward your chest
  • Do not allow the dumbbells to separate or rotate during the movement
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps, maintaining tension in the chest throughout
