About this exercise

The dumbbell suitcase carry is a unilateral loaded carry in which you walk while holding a single dumbbell at your side, like carrying a suitcase. The asymmetric load forces your core, obliques, and lower back to work hard to resist lateral lean, building functional stability and hip strength.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell in one hand at your side, arm fully extended
  • Brace your core and keep your shoulders level — resist the urge to lean toward the weight
  • Walk forward with a controlled, even stride for the target distance
  • Keep your gaze forward and maintain a tall posture throughout
  • At the end of the distance, set the dumbbell down safely, switch hands, and repeat on the other side
