About this exercise

A rotational core exercise performed standing in which you hold dumbbells and rotate them in controlled arcs around your body, engaging the obliques and core through a full range of rotational movement. The added load of dumbbells increases the challenge compared to bodyweight rotations.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand with arms extended in front of you
  • Begin rotating your arms and torso horizontally to one side, sweeping the dumbbells around your body
  • Keep your hips facing forward as much as possible to isolate rotational work in the trunk
  • Maintain a controlled tempo so momentum does not override muscle engagement
  • Complete the desired reps rotating in one direction, then repeat in the opposite direction
  • Keep a soft bend in your knees and brace your core throughout the movement
