About this exercise

A lat and upper chest exercise performed on an incline bench where you hold a single dumbbell with both hands and arc it behind your head. The inclined angle deepens the stretch on the lats and chest compared to the flat pullover variation.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a 30–45 degree incline and lie back with your upper back supported on the pad
  • Hold a single dumbbell vertically with both hands, gripping beneath the upper weight plate, arms extended overhead
  • Lower the dumbbell in a wide arc behind your head until you feel a stretch through your lats and upper chest
  • Pull the dumbbell back over your chest through the same arc, engaging your lats
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout to reduce joint stress
  • Brace your core and avoid flaring your ribs or over-arching your lower back
