About this exercise

The dumbbell goblet lunge is a lower-body strength exercise that combines the hip and knee loading of a lunge with the anterior load of the goblet position, naturally promoting an upright torso and greater core engagement. Holding the dumbbell at chest height challenges the quadriceps and glutes while reinforcing proper posture throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Hold a dumbbell vertically at chest height with both hands cupped around one end in the goblet position
  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and brace your core
  • Step forward with one foot and lower your back knee toward the floor until both knees reach roughly 90 degrees
  • Keep your torso upright and the dumbbell close to your chest throughout the descent
  • Push through the heel of the front foot to drive back up to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side or alternate legs with each step
