About this exercise

A chest fly variation performed lying flat on the floor, which naturally limits the range of motion at the bottom to protect the shoulder joint while still delivering a strong chest stretch and squeeze. It is a joint-friendly alternative to the bench fly, ideal for home training or shoulder rehabilitation.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back on the floor with knees bent and feet flat
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand directly above your chest with a slight bend in your elbows, palms facing each other
  • Lower the dumbbells out to the sides in a wide arc, keeping the elbow angle constant
  • Stop when your upper arms touch the floor — do not force a deeper stretch
  • Squeeze your chest and bring the dumbbells back together above your chest in the same arc
