About this exercise

The Downward Punch is a dynamic bodyweight shoulder and triceps exercise that mimics a combat-style punch directed at a downward angle. Alternating arms builds shoulder endurance, coordination, and core stability.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent
  • Raise both hands in front of your chest in a guard position
  • Shift your weight slightly and drive one fist forward and downward in a punching motion
  • Rotate your torso and hips into the punch to generate power
  • Retract the punching arm back to the guard position
  • Immediately repeat the punch with the opposite arm
  • Continue alternating arms for the target number of reps
