About this exercise

Downward Facing Dog is a foundational yoga pose and full-body stretch. From an inverted V position, it simultaneously lengthens the hamstrings, calves, and lower back while opening the shoulders, making it an excellent warm-up and cool-down movement.

How to Perform

  • Begin on all fours with hands shoulder-width apart and knees hip-width apart
  • Spread your fingers wide and press firmly through your palms
  • Tuck your toes and lift your hips up and back, straightening your legs as much as comfortable
  • Form an inverted V-shape with your body, aiming to bring your heels toward the floor
  • Draw your shoulders away from your ears and lengthen your spine
