About this exercise

Downward Dog is a foundational yoga pose that simultaneously stretches the hamstrings, calves, and lower back while building shoulder and arm stability. It serves as both a resting posture and an active stretch widely used in warm-ups and yoga flows.

How to Perform

  • Begin on all fours with your hands shoulder-width apart and knees hip-width apart
  • Tuck your toes under and press firmly through your palms
  • Lift your knees off the floor and straighten your legs, pushing your hips up and back
  • Press your heels toward the floor and lengthen through your spine
  • Keep your head relaxed between your arms, gaze toward your feet
  • Hold the position for the desired duration, breathing steadily
