About this exercise

The decline sit-up is performed on a decline bench with feet secured, placing the torso at a downward angle that increases the resistance throughout the full range of motion. It works the rectus abdominis through a longer arc than a flat sit-up and also engages the hip flexors significantly.

How to Perform

  • Hook your feet under the padded rollers of a decline bench and lie back fully, arms crossed over your chest or placed behind your head
  • Engage your core and sit up by curling your torso toward your knees in a controlled motion
  • Continue rising until your torso is nearly upright
  • Pause briefly at the top, then slowly lower back down to the starting position
  • Keep the movement controlled on the way down to maintain tension on the abdominals
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
