About this exercise

The decline push-up elevates your feet on a bench or raised surface, shifting the angle of the movement to emphasise the upper chest and anterior deltoids more than a flat push-up. The steeper the elevation, the more upper-chest recruitment increases.

How to Perform

  • Place your feet on a bench or elevated surface and walk your hands out to a push-up position, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width
  • Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels, engaging your core and glutes
  • Lower your chest toward the floor by bending your elbows outward at roughly 45 degrees
  • Pause just above the floor, then press back up to full arm extension
  • Maintain a neutral spine throughout; avoid letting your hips sag or pike
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
