About this exercise

The decline crunch is performed on a decline bench with your feet secured and your head lower than your hips. This angle increases the range of motion and places greater constant tension on the abdominals throughout the entire movement compared to a flat floor crunch.

How to Perform

  • Hook your feet under the padded rollers of a decline bench and lie back with your torso angled downward
  • Place your hands lightly behind your head or cross them over your chest
  • Engage your core and curl your upper body upward toward your knees
  • Pause at the top and squeeze your abdominals
  • Slowly lower your torso back to the starting position with control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
