About this exercise

The floor crunch is the foundational bodyweight abdominal exercise. Lying on your back with knees bent, you curl your upper back off the floor using your abdominals, keeping the movement short and controlled to maximise tension on the rectus abdominis.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent at roughly 90 degrees and feet flat on the floor
  • Place your hands lightly behind your head or cross them over your chest
  • Engage your core and slowly curl your shoulder blades off the floor
  • Pause at the top and squeeze your abdominals
  • Lower your upper back back to the floor with control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
