About this exercise

The chest dip is a bodyweight pushing exercise performed on parallel bars that emphasizes the lower chest while also working the triceps and front shoulders. Leaning forward shifts the load onto the pectorals, building upper-body pushing strength and size.

How to Perform

  • Grip the parallel bars and support yourself with your arms straight and your body lifted off the ground
  • Lean your torso forward and let your elbows flare slightly to target the chest
  • Bend your elbows to lower your body until you feel a stretch across your chest
  • Keep the forward lean as you descend under control
  • Press through your palms to push yourself back up until your arms are fully extended
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
