About this exercise

A standing stretch targeting the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles of the calf. Placing one foot back and pressing the heel into the ground elongates the calf and helps prevent tightness after lower-body training.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a wall and place your hands on it for support
  • Step one foot back, keeping the heel flat on the ground and the leg straight
  • Lean your body forward, pressing the back heel firmly into the floor
  • Hold for 20–30 seconds, feeling the stretch along the back of the lower leg
  • Switch legs and repeat

About the Calves Stretch

The Calves Stretch is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
