About this exercise

The cable standing crunch is a weighted ab exercise performed standing, using a rope attachment from a high pulley to apply resistance as you crunch your torso downward. It allows for a full range of motion and continuous tension throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope handle to the high pulley of a cable machine and stand facing the machine
  • Grip the rope with both hands and hold it at either side of your head, elbows bent
  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and a slight forward lean at the hips
  • Crunch your rib cage down toward your hips by flexing the abs — do not pull with your arms
  • Pause at the bottom of the crunch and squeeze the abs
  • Slowly return to the starting position, allowing your torso to extend back up under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
