About this exercise

The cable squat row is a compound movement that combines a squat with a rowing action, simultaneously working the legs and back in one fluid motion. Performed using a low pulley with a rope attachment, it builds functional strength in the quadriceps, glutes, and lats while reinforcing proper hip drive and pulling mechanics.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope handle to the low pulley cable
  • Stand facing the machine with feet shoulder-width apart and grasp the rope with both hands
  • Push your hips back and descend into a full squat, keeping your chest up and back straight
  • At the bottom of the squat, begin driving through your heels to stand
  • As you rise, simultaneously row the rope toward your abdomen, driving your elbows back
  • Squeeze your back muscles at the top of the movement before returning
  • Lower the rope and descend back into the next squat in one controlled motion
  • Keep your core braced throughout the entire movement
