Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Seated Crunch.

EasyAbs

About this exercise

The cable seated crunch is an abdominal exercise performed while seated on a bench facing away from the high cable, pulling the cable downward by flexing the spine. The cable provides constant tension throughout the crunch movement, which is an advantage over bodyweight crunches where tension decreases at the top.

How to Perform

  • Place a bench a short distance from the cable machine and attach a rope handle to the high pulley
  • Sit on the bench facing away from the machine, holding the rope behind your head at ear level
  • Sit upright with feet flat on the floor and core braced
  • Exhale and crunch forward by flexing your spine, bringing your elbows toward your knees
  • Pause at the bottom of the crunch when the abs are fully contracted
  • Slowly return to the upright starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
