About this exercise

The Cable Oblique Twist is a rotational core exercise performed standing with a cable machine set at chest height. Twisting the torso against cable resistance isolates the obliques through their primary function of trunk rotation, making it effective for developing lateral core strength.

How to Perform

  • Set the cable pulley to chest height and attach a rope or single handle
  • Stand sideways to the machine, feet shoulder-width apart with knees slightly bent
  • Grip the handle with both hands, arms extended at chest level toward the cable
  • Keeping your hips square, rotate your torso away from the machine in a controlled arc
  • Pause briefly at the end of the rotation, squeezing the obliques
  • Return to the starting position with control, resisting the pull of the cable
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
