About this exercise

The cable kickback is a single-arm triceps isolation exercise performed with a low-pulley cable. Hinging forward at the hips and keeping the upper arm parallel to the floor, you extend the forearm rearward against continuous cable tension, maximally contracting the triceps.

How to Perform

  • Attach a single-D handle to the low pulley of a cable machine
  • Stand facing the machine and hinge forward at the hips until your torso is nearly parallel to the floor
  • Grasp the handle with one hand and tuck your upper arm against your side, elbow bent at 90 degrees
  • Keeping the upper arm stationary, extend your forearm straight back until the arm is fully extended
  • Squeeze the triceps at the top, then slowly return to the 90-degree starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
