Cable Front Raise

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Front Raise.

EasyFront shoulders

About this exercise

The cable front raise is an anterior deltoid isolation exercise performed with a rope or handle attached to a low cable pulley, raising the load in front of the body to shoulder height. Unlike free weights, the cable keeps consistent tension on the front deltoid throughout both the lifting and lowering phases. It is an effective accessory movement for building shoulder size and strength in the pressing pattern.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope or handle to the low pulley and stand facing away from the cable machine
  • Hold the handle with both hands and let it hang in front of your thighs with a neutral or overhand grip
  • Keeping your elbows slightly bent, raise your arms straight in front of you to approximately shoulder height
  • Hold briefly at the top to maximise the contraction in the front deltoids
  • Lower the handle back to the starting position in a slow, controlled manner
  • Avoid shrugging your shoulders or leaning back to generate momentum

About the Cable Front Raise

The Cable Front Raise is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
