Cable Forward Raise

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Forward Raise.

EasyFront shoulders

About this exercise

The cable forward raise is a shoulder isolation exercise that lifts a bar or handle from a low pulley in front of the body to approximately shoulder height. The cable provides continuous resistance throughout the full range of motion, making it more effective than a dumbbell version at keeping tension on the anterior deltoid at the bottom of the movement. It is commonly used as an accessory exercise to strengthen and define the front shoulder.

How to Perform

  • Attach a straight-bar handle to the low pulley and stand facing away from the machine
  • Hold the bar with a shoulder-width overhand grip and let it hang in front of your thighs
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows and raise the bar forward and upward to shoulder height
  • Pause at the top for a moment and feel the contraction in the front deltoid
  • Lower the bar back to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Keep your torso stable throughout and avoid using momentum to swing the weight
