Cable Decline Fly

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Decline Fly.

MediumMiddle chest

About this exercise

The cable decline fly targets the lower portion of the chest by pulling from high pulleys downward and inward in a sweeping arc. The constant cable tension throughout the movement provides a superior stretch and contraction for the lower pectoral fibers compared to a dumbbell version. It is a popular isolation exercise for adding definition and fullness to the lower chest.

How to Perform

  • Set both cable pulleys to their highest position and attach single D-handles
  • Stand in the center of the cable crossover station with a staggered stance for balance
  • Grasp a handle in each hand with palms facing down and arms extended slightly above shoulder height
  • Keeping a slight bend in your elbows, sweep your hands downward and inward in a wide arc, crossing slightly at the bottom
  • Squeeze the lower chest at the point of maximum contraction
  • Slowly return the handles upward along the same arc, feeling a full stretch in the lower pecs
  • Keep your torso upright and avoid leaning forward excessively
