About this exercise

Butt kicks are a dynamic cardio and warm-up exercise in which you run or jog in place while rapidly flexing your knees to kick your heels toward your glutes. The movement elevates the heart rate, warms up the hamstrings, and improves running mechanics.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides
  • Begin jogging in place, shifting your weight from foot to foot
  • Rapidly bend one knee to kick your heel up toward your glutes
  • Alternate legs quickly, mimicking a running stride while staying on the balls of your feet
  • Pump your arms in rhythm with your legs to maintain coordination
  • Keep your torso upright and your core lightly engaged throughout
  • Continue for the prescribed duration at a brisk, controlled pace
