About this exercise

The broad long jump is a plyometric exercise in which you leap forward as far as possible from a standing position, landing with both feet simultaneously. It builds explosive leg power, hip extension strength, and landing mechanics, and is commonly used in athletic training and fitness testing.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart just behind the take-off line
  • Swing your arms back and bend your knees into a quarter-squat to load up
  • Explode forward and upward, driving your arms forward as you jump
  • Extend your hips, knees, and ankles fully at take-off to maximize distance
  • Bring your knees up toward your chest during flight to extend reach
  • Reach forward with your feet and land softly with both feet simultaneously, absorbing impact through bent knees
  • Stick the landing and stand up fully to complete the rep
