About this exercise

The Bridge Hip Abduction combines a glute bridge with an outward knee-spreading movement to target the glutes and hip abductors in a single exercise. Performed on the floor, it builds hip stability and strengthens the posterior chain without any equipment.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor hip-width apart, and arms resting at your sides
  • Press through your heels to lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from shoulders to knees
  • While holding the bridge, spread your knees apart as far as comfortable, engaging your hip abductors
  • Bring your knees back together while maintaining the bridge position
  • Repeat the abduction for the desired number of reps before lowering your hips to the floor
  • Keep your core braced and avoid letting your hips drop throughout the set
