About this exercise

A fundamental boxing punch that travels horizontally in an arc from the left side, engaging the shoulder, chest, and obliques. The left hook generates power through hip and torso rotation, making it effective both as a training drill for coordination and as a conditioning movement.

How to Perform

  • Stand in a boxing stance with your left foot slightly forward, knees slightly bent, and fists raised to guard position
  • Shift your weight onto your left foot and rotate your hips and torso to the right to load the punch
  • Drive the punch by rapidly rotating your hips and torso back to the left, simultaneously swinging your left arm in a horizontal arc at head height
  • Keep your elbow bent at roughly 90 degrees throughout the swing, knuckles facing the target at impact
  • Snap the punch back to guard position as quickly as possible after impact
  • Reset your stance and repeat for the desired number of repetitions
