About this exercise

Bodyweight Woodchoppers are a rotational core exercise that mimics the diagonal chopping motion of an axe. Clasping both hands together and swinging from high to low across the body, this movement trains the obliques, builds rotational power, and improves functional coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent
  • Clasp your hands together and raise them diagonally overhead to the right
  • In one controlled motion, swing your arms diagonally downward and across to your left hip while rotating your torso
  • Allow your right heel to lift off the floor as you rotate through the movement
  • Reverse the motion, raising both hands back to the starting position overhead right
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch to the opposite diagonal
  • Keep your core braced and your movements smooth and controlled throughout
