About this exercise

The bodyweight standing fly is a chest exercise performed without equipment, mimicking the motion of a cable or dumbbell fly while standing. By pressing the palms together and squeezing the chest muscles isometrically or through a small range of motion, it activates the pectorals and front deltoids.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart and a slight bend in the knees
  • Extend both arms out to your sides at chest height, palms facing forward
  • Keeping a slight bend in the elbows, sweep both arms inward in a wide arc, as if hugging a large tree
  • Bring the palms together in front of your chest and squeeze the chest muscles hard
  • Slowly return the arms to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
