Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Bodyweight Narrow Squat.

EasyGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

The bodyweight narrow squat is a close-stance squat variation performed without external load, placing greater emphasis on the quadriceps compared to a standard squat. The narrow foot placement challenges balance and shifts the recruitment pattern toward the front of the thighs. It is an accessible lower-body exercise for beginners and an effective warm-up or accessory movement for more advanced trainees.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet together or just a few inches apart and toes pointing slightly outward
  • Hold your arms out in front or cross them at the chest for balance
  • Inhale and brace the core, then push the hips back and bend the knees to descend
  • Lower until thighs are parallel to the floor, or as deep as mobility allows, keeping the chest up
  • Drive through the entire foot to stand back up, extending hips and knees simultaneously
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
