About this exercise

A standing bodyweight drill that drives the knee powerfully upward in a thrusting motion, engaging the hip flexors and core while building cardiovascular conditioning. Alternating the drive between legs keeps the heart rate elevated.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright with feet hip-width apart and fists raised in a guard position
  • Shift your weight onto your left foot and engage your core
  • Drive your right knee upward and forward explosively toward your chest
  • Pump your left arm forward in opposition as the knee rises
  • Return your right foot to the floor under control
  • Immediately shift weight and drive the left knee up while pumping the right arm
  • Continue alternating legs at a brisk, controlled pace

About the Knee Thrust

The Knee Thrust is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
