About this exercise

The boat stretch is a yoga-inspired static hold in which the body forms a V-shape with legs elevated and arms extended forward. It stretches and isometrically engages the hip flexors, abdominals, and lower back, while improving balance and core stability.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with knees bent and feet flat
  • Place your hands on the floor behind your hips for initial support
  • Lean back slightly and lift your feet until your shins are parallel to the floor
  • Extend your arms forward at shoulder height, palms facing each other
  • Straighten your legs to form a wider V-shape if flexibility allows
  • Lift your chest and keep your spine long — avoid rounding the lower back
  • Hold the position for the target duration, breathing steadily

About the Navasana

The Navasana is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
