About this exercise

The bear plank is an isometric core stability exercise performed on all fours with the knees hovering just a few centimetres off the floor. It develops anti-extension and anti-rotation strength throughout the entire core complex and reinforces neutral spine control under sustained tension.

How to Perform

  • Start on all fours with your hands directly under your shoulders and knees under your hips
  • Tuck your toes into the floor and engage your core
  • Lift your knees 2–5 cm off the ground while keeping your back flat and hips level
  • Keep your gaze slightly forward to maintain a neutral cervical spine
  • Resist any tendency to let the hips rise or the lower back arch
  • Breathe steadily and hold the position for the target duration

About the Bear Hold
