About this exercise

A fundamental bodyweight movement pattern where you travel on hands and feet with knees hovering just off the ground, building core strength, shoulder stability, and coordination. It mimics animal locomotion and is used in conditioning, rehabilitation, and warm-up protocols.

How to Perform

  • Start on all fours with your wrists under your shoulders and knees under your hips
  • Lift your knees 2–5 cm off the floor so only your hands and toes are in contact with the ground
  • Brace your core strongly to keep your back flat and hips level
  • Move your right hand and left foot forward simultaneously
  • Then move your left hand and right foot forward to complete one step cycle
  • Keep your hips low and avoid rocking side to side as you crawl
  • Continue crawling forward (or backward) for the target distance or time
