About this exercise

The barbell reverse curl uses an overhand (pronated) grip to shift emphasis from the biceps to the brachialis and forearm extensors. Keeping the upper arms fixed at the sides ensures the forearms and elbow flexors perform the work.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hold a barbell with a shoulder-width overhand grip, palms facing down
  • Let the bar hang at arm's length in front of your thighs
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary against your sides, curl the bar toward your shoulders
  • Squeeze at the top without letting your elbows drift forward
  • Slowly lower the bar back to the starting position under control
