About this exercise

An advanced compound exercise combining a lunge with a barbell held locked out directly overhead. The overhead position demands significant core stability, shoulder strength, and thoracic mobility while the lunge pattern trains the lower body.

How to Perform

  • Clean and press a barbell to a locked-out overhead position with arms fully extended
  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and brace your core tightly
  • Step forward with one foot and lower your back knee toward the floor in a controlled lunge
  • Keep the barbell directly over your midfoot and your torso upright throughout the descent
  • Drive through the front heel to return to standing with the bar still overhead
  • Alternate legs each rep or complete all reps on one side before switching
