About this exercise

The Dimel Deadlift is a high-rep partial Romanian deadlift variation developed by powerlifter Matt Dimel. The bar is driven explosively from just below the knees to hip lockout, overloading the hamstrings and glutes with a shorter range of motion and rapid tempo.

How to Perform

  • Set a barbell on the floor and stand with a hip-width stance using a double-overhand grip
  • Hinge at the hips and lower the bar to just below the knee level, keeping your back flat and shins nearly vertical
  • Explosively drive your hips forward to lock the bar out at the top, squeezing your glutes
  • Immediately hinge back down to the starting position without pausing at the bottom
  • Maintain constant tension in the hamstrings and glutes throughout the set
  • Use a weight that allows rapid but controlled reps and keep the range of motion consistent
