About this exercise

The Barbell Decline Pullover is a chest and lat exercise performed lying on a decline bench, lowering the barbell in an arc from above the chest toward the floor behind the head. The decline angle shifts emphasis to the lower chest and increases the stretch on the lats and serratus.

How to Perform

  • Set the bench to a decline angle and secure your legs under the pad
  • Lie back on the bench and hold the barbell with a shoulder-width overhand grip above your chest
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the movement
  • Lower the barbell in a controlled arc over and behind your head until you feel a deep stretch in the chest and lats
  • Pull the barbell back up in the same arc to the starting position above your chest
  • Squeeze the chest at the top and repeat
