About this exercise

The band thruster is a resistance-band variation of the thruster that combines a squat with an overhead press in one continuous movement. The band provides accommodating resistance that increases at the top of the movement, making it ideal for conditioning and metabolic work.

How to Perform

  • Stand on the resistance band with feet shoulder-width apart, holding each end at shoulder height with palms facing inward
  • Brace your core and lower into a full squat, keeping your chest tall and knees aligned with your toes
  • Drive explosively through your heels to stand
  • Use the upward momentum to press both hands overhead until arms are fully extended
  • Lower your hands back to shoulder height with control as you descend into the next squat
  • Keep your core tight and spine neutral throughout the entire movement
