About this exercise

The band hip flexion exercise targets the hip flexors and core by raising one knee upward against the resistance of a band anchored behind the body. It improves hip flexor strength and is useful as a warm-up or rehabilitation drill.

How to Perform

  • Anchor the resistance band at a low point behind you and loop the other end around one foot or ankle
  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and engage your core
  • Shift your weight onto the non-working leg for balance
  • Drive the working knee upward toward your chest against the band's resistance
  • Raise the knee until your thigh is at least parallel to the floor
  • Hold the top position briefly, then slowly lower the leg back to the start
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other leg
