Resistance Band Deadlift

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Resistance Band Deadlift.

MediumGlutes

About this exercise

A hip hinge exercise that uses a resistance band looped under the feet to load the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back through the deadlift pattern. The band's accommodating resistance increases tension at lockout, making it effective for developing explosive hip extension and reinforcing proper hinge mechanics.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart on the center of the resistance band
  • Hold the band handles or ends at arm's length with an overhand grip
  • Hinge at the hips and push them back while bending your knees slightly until your torso is near parallel to the floor
  • Keep your back flat, chest up, and core braced throughout the movement
  • Drive through your heels and extend your hips and knees simultaneously to stand tall
  • Squeeze your glutes at the top and fully extend your hips
  • Lower back down under control by hinging at the hips and repeat
