Band-Assisted Dip

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Band-Assisted Dip.

EasyTriceps

About this exercise

A parallel-bars dip performed with a looped resistance band anchored to the bars and supporting the knees or feet, reducing the effective body weight and making the dip accessible to those developing triceps and lower-chest pressing strength. The band provides the most assistance at the bottom of the movement where the dip is hardest.

How to Perform

  • Loop a resistance band across both parallel bars at the same height
  • Grip the bars with straight arms and place both knees or feet inside the band loop
  • Hold yourself up at full arm extension with your core braced and torso slightly forward
  • Lower yourself by bending your elbows until your upper arms are roughly parallel to the floor
  • Keep your elbows tracking slightly behind you and avoid flaring them out excessively
  • Press back up to full arm extension by driving through the palms
  • Squeeze your triceps and chest at the top of the movement
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps

About the Band-Assisted Dip

The Band-Assisted Dip is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
